Black Walnut-Tolerant Garden
If you’re frustrated with trying to garden under a black walnut tree and want a lush native garden, this is the package for you. Black walnut and butternut trees produce a compound called Juglone, which is toxic to many plants and frustrates gardeners! Black walnut and butternut trees are extremely valuable trees to have in the landscape. Fortunately, because they’re native to most of the eastern half of the U.S., many of the native plants they co-evolved with are tolerant to juglone. This design includes those Juglone-tolerant plants.
The plants in this design are tidy enough to please your neighbors while evoking the the colors and textures of the native woodland. You’ll have plants blooming from spring to fall and a design that looks intentional and cultivated.
